Censored Planet is a research team at the University of Michigan dedicated to building scalable systems and novel techniques to protect users from online censorship, surveillance, and the digital divide. With over 68 billion measurements taken across more than 220 countries since 2018, we provide invaluable data for monitoring global internet censorship trends. We collaborate with over 50 advocacy and academic organizations globally to equip them with reliable datasets that advance digital freedom initiatives. Our research also seeks to expose new censorship threats, assess network middlebox deployments, and enhance traffic obfuscation methods to ensure secure online communication. We offer a range of tools like the Censored Planet Observatory, VPNalyzer, and GeoInspector, making our insights accessible and actionable for the community.
